A finished surface demands cleaner installation

Engineered parquet is normally neither sanded nor lacquered after installation. Every stain, height difference or bit of damage therefore stays visible — which makes discipline with the adhesive even more important.

Three particularities of engineered parquet

Click or tongue-and-groove?

Click parquet may be fully bonded only if the manufacturer explicitly permits it.

The parquet manufacturer's warranty instructions take precedence.

Element length

For individual MS 262 beads, the current TDS requires multi-layer parquet to be at least 90 cm long.

For smaller elements use the approved multi-nozzle head or a suitable TKB trowel.

The factory surface

Lacquer, oil and UV coating call for different cleaners and care.

Identify the surface before the first clean; do not apply extra lacquer out of habit.

  1. 01

    Read the warranty instructions

    Confirm that full-surface bonding is permitted, which substrate, flatness, moisture level and edge expansion are required, and whether an MS polymer adhesive may be used.

  2. 02

    Inspect the packs and sort the boards

    Open the packs as instructed, check for damage and shade differences, and mix boards from several packs. Set aside visible defects before they meet the adhesive.

  3. 03

    Prepare the substrate

    Measure the moisture, check the flatness and mechanically remove weak layers. Prepare a calcium sulphate screed mechanically and vacuum it thoroughly. D 3003/D 3004 + Z 610 applies only to a suitable mineral substrate; always separate mastic asphalt from MS 262 with PU 280 or MS 330. Residual moisture barriers are only for permanently moisture-resistant substrates and within the permitted TDS limits.

  4. 04

    Dry lay-out and starting batten

    Lay several rows without adhesive, decide where the floor starts and ends, then set up a perfectly straight reference batten or line. Plan the work so that you never walk on freshly laid boards.

  5. 05

    Choose the MS 262 application

    For long, permitted boards you may use transverse beads with the triangular nozzle every 8–10 cm. For smaller elements and greater control, use the approved multi-nozzle head or full-surface application with a suitable TKB trowel.

  6. 06

    Clean laying

    Set the board immediately, press it down along its full length and close the joint with a protected tapping block. Lift the first boards and check the adhesive transfer. Your hands, tools and knees must not carry adhesive onto the finished surface.

  7. 07

    Weight only where it is needed

    Weight lifted edges or stubborn elements with a flat, clean board that spreads the pressure. This must not mask an uneven substrate or squeeze out all the adhesive.

  8. 08

    Undisturbed curing

    MS 262 sets in about 24 h. During curing, do not remove the spacers too early and do not fit skirting if that would close the required expansion gap. Check stability, hollow spots and joints before loading the floor.

  9. 09

    First cleaning and care

    Clean lacquered engineered parquet routinely with LOBA Home Cleaner for finished hardwood; use the oiled/waxed version for oiled floors. Use Care occasionally and only for the correct surface type. Always keep water to a minimum.

  10. 10

    Renewing a factory lacquer — only after a test

    If UV-lacquered engineered parquet later needs a professional refresh without sanding down to the wood, the possible route is CareRemover → neutralisation → adhesion test → 2K Contact → a non-glossy 2K Duo or 2K Supra A.T.

Mistakes that show up too late

STOP 01

Forcing click parquet into full bonding

Full-surface bonding without approval can void the warranty or damage the joint.

STOP 02

Leaving a stain until tomorrow

Cured MS polymer can only be removed mechanically and may damage the factory finish.

STOP 03

A substrate that is not flat enough

Engineered boards reveal height differences, hollow spots and stressed joints.

STOP 04

Applying extra lacquer at random

Factory UV coatings have an unknown surface energy; without preparation the lacquer delaminates.

STOP 05

The same care for every floor

Lacquered, penetrating-oiled and HardwaxOil floors need different products.
