What does parquet sanding cost on the market?
The figures below are publicly published market ranges, given for comparison. Your calculation above uses our price list for projects outside Slovenia: €38/m² for a full restoration and a one-off €150 for transport. The final quote is confirmed against the photos, the access and the actual condition of the floor.

Two quotes with the same price per m² are not comparable if one includes gap filling, edges and a quality finishing system while the other covers only basic sanding and charges the material separately.
What must the price of sanding and lacquering include?
The quality of the final appearance is built up in a sequence of steps. Coarse sanding removes the old coating and the larger irregularities. The middle passes level out the marks of the previous grit, and the fine pass prepares the wood to take the primer, lacquer or oil evenly. Skipping a grit is faster, but after the coating goes on it can reveal circular marks and bands.
- Protecting the room and inspecting it. Assessing stability, protruding nails, damaged boards, gaps and sensitive adjacent surfaces.
- Coarse, medium and fine sanding. Grits chosen according to the condition, not the same formula for every floor.
- Edges and corners. The edge machine plus hand work where the main machine cannot reach.
- Filling the gaps and defects. Where the gaps are stable and suitable for filling; large seasonal gaps are treated with care. When filling makes sense and when it does harm is explained in the guide to parquet gap filling.
- Final preparation and extraction. Fine dust must not stay in the pores or on the walls before the coating goes on.
- Primer and final protection. Precisely named products, the number of coats and the expected time before use.
“Dust-free sanding” means effective extraction at source, not the laboratory absence of every particle. A good contractor limits the dust, protects the openings and cleans the surface systematically after sanding. The seven factors that most affect the final figure.
1. Area and the minimum charge
At 12 m², the travel, the protection, setting up the machines and the drying stay almost the same as in a larger room.
2. How broken up the space is
More thresholds, narrow hallways, alcoves and doors mean more edge and hand work.
3. Condition of the old coating
A thick, sticky or uneven coating can clog the abrasive quickly and require extra steps.
4. Repairs before sanding
Debonding, water damage, replacing boards and protruding elements are not ordinary sanding.
5. Type of parquet and wood
The thin wear layer of engineered parquet and sensitive wood both require a slower, more controlled approach.
6. Lacquer or oil
The price is set by the complete system: primer, finishing material, number of coats, pigment and intermediate sanding.
7. Logistics
Moving furniture, access without a lift, parking and working in phases can all extend the job.
Previous care
Wax, silicone and polish can make a recoat difficult and demand more intensive cleaning or a full sanding.
To compare quotes realistically, ask for the brand or material class in writing, the number of coats, whether the edges are included and how the skirting is handled. If a quote uses only the phrase “parquet restoration”, the scope is too loose.
Three indicative worked examples.
The calculations use the market range of €28–45/m² for sanding and lacquering. They do not include special repairs, skirting, stairs or moving furniture.

If you are deciding between restoration and a completely new floor, the calculation with prices for both options is on the page parquet installation: cost or restoration. If the floor is only dull and has no deep damage, refinishing without a full sanding may be appropriate. If it is debonding or creaking, the remediation is assessed first, because new lacquer does not stabilise the substrate.
The cost of lacquering and of oiling after sanding.
Lacquer and oil are not compared on the purchase price of the material alone. Lacquer forms a closed film and, for many domestic and commercial rooms, is simpler to clean routinely. Two-component waterborne systems are as a rule more expensive than basic one-component ones, but they offer greater resistance under load.
Oil emphasises the natural texture and makes local repairs easier, but it needs periodic maintenance care. Pigmented oil requires very even sanding; every trace of a grit can show up as a difference in tone. With a quote, therefore, check whether buffing, removal of the excess and the first-care instructions are included.

How to prepare the room and shorten the work?
- Remove small furniture, textiles, floor-length curtains and anything breakable.
- Agree in advance who moves the larger cupboards and whether the work is done in phases.
- Provide access to power and ventilation as required by the chosen system.
- Do not treat scratches with wax, oil or a universal polish before the work starts.
- Tell us about any water leaks, moisture problems, underfloor heating and past repairs.
Sanding on your own without experience often ends in waves, burn marks along the edges and too much wood removed. With engineered parquet the wear layer can be thin, so identifying the type and construction of the parquet matters before any work begins.

What does the price of sanding and lacquering include?
A complete system normally includes several successive sanding grits, edge work, dust extraction, gap filling where needed, a primer coat and the finishing coats. The quote must state explicitly which stages and materials are included.
Why is a smaller room more expensive per m²?
On a small area, the travel, protecting the room, setting up the machines, the edges and the cleaning stay almost the same as on a larger job. That is why contractors often apply a minimum charge.
Are gap filling, edges and skirting included?
Not always. The quote must itemise gap filling, edge work, removing or fitting skirting, and local repairs. Before you accept it, check which items are covered by the price per m².
Is oiling more expensive than lacquering?
Not necessarily. The price depends on the chosen oil or lacquer system, the consumption, the number of coats and the preparation. The complete system and the required resistance matter more than the general label.
Can I get an indicative price from photos?
Yes. For a first assessment, send a photo of the whole room, the damage close up, the surface against the light, the area, the location and the finish you want. Where there is moisture, debonding or an unknown construction, a site visit is required.
